Desiree was born in Manhattan, NY and grew up in New Paltz, NY. She spent six years in Virginia and attended Old Dominion University on a tennis scholarship where she majored in International Marketing. She took a summer off to compete in the European professional tennis circuit. She enjoyed music as a release from the pressures of sports but, she soon realized that music had become the dominating force in her life and it became a full time pursuit. Her sharply honed performance skills can be attributed to several years traveling and performing solo throughout the US and Europe.
During her many years in New York City, Desiree's back up band was The Rough Riders. Nashville, Tennessee has been home for quite some years now, and her current band performs under her name... Desiree.
The Rough Riders were originally a pop-rock band but, when Desiree went on the road with a country western band for several months, she fell in love with the music and the sheer fun of it. On returning home to New York, she reorganized the Rough Riders, adding a fiddle player and a peddle steel player. Then she wrote a whole track of country western material. With a varied musical background, Solo and pieces of Desiree found their way into the basically country foundation. "Drank", a honky-tonk, tear in my beer, is as country as you can get while "City Lights" and "Johnnie & Sue" address some of the darker sides of Urban living - homelessness and teenage suicide.
Desiree's music ranges from kickin', honky-tonkin' tunes to beautiful ballads. The bands blues based boogies, together with bluegrass harmonies and traditional southern sounds, are unmistakably country, yet the contemporary lyrics and universal themes are more relative to today's trends and social concerns. Desiree is principal songwriter, and lead vocalist. The rest of this very talented group make up a band that you should not miss!
